A museum that will exhibit the biggest collection of gems and minerals from the US state of Maine will open in 2013, according to a recent report. The collection includes a 158-carat morganite, which has been cut from ''The Rose of Maine,'' discovered in the town of Buckfield in Oxford County in 1989; a 106-carat tourmaline, one of the largest from a Dunton Mine find in the town of Newry; and a 6.4-pound tourmaline crystal from the Dunton Mine, according to The Bethel Citizen.
Originally scheduled to be completed this year, the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum will open in 2013 for a reason - it has doubled in size.
In addition to rare gemstones, the museum will also display information about the collectors and host exhibits featuring mining operations and the gem-cutting process.
