Chow Tai Fook Reports Q4 Sales Dip Amid Gold Price Volatility

International jewellery retail major Chow Tai Fook reported a marginal decline in sales for the fourth quarter of the financial year, reflecting evolving consumer behaviour in a high-price environment.

Sales fell by 1.5% for the three months ending March 31, primarily impacted by an 8% decline in China, which contributes over 80% of the company’s total revenue.

The company attributed the performance to heightened global uncertainties and unprecedented volatility in gold prices, which led to mixed purchasing trends among consumers.

Interestingly, gold jewellery demand remained resilient, aligning with broader market trends:

* Hong Kong & Macau: +47% growth
* China: +7% growth

In contrast, gemstone jewellery witnessed a decline across both regions, indicating a shift toward value-driven purchases and gold-led buying preferences amid rising prices.
