President of Thailand Trade Representatives Meets with Indian-Thai Diamond & Colorstone Association (ITDCA) to Advance Thailand as a Global Gem and Jewelry Hub

20-08-2025   01:20 PM

Dr. Nalinee Taveesin, President of Thailand Trade Representatives, revealed that she, together with Mr. Ashwani Bajaj, International Trade and Investment Advisor, held discussions with Mr. Atul Jogani, President of the Indian-Thai Diamond & Colorstone Association (ITDCA), along with the association’s executive committee.

During the meeting, Dr. Nalinee emphasized her commitment to positioning Thailand as a “global hub for diamond, gemstone, and jewelry trade.” Key strategies include promoting e-commerce, enhancing workforce skills, improving trade regulations, and leveraging Soft Power through Thai–Indian cooperation and cultural activities to strengthen the Thai economy in a sustainable manner.

In particular, she highlighted the development of the colored gemstone (Colorstone) industry, which is currently gaining strong popularity and has high potential in the Indian market, alongside upgrading Thai workers’ craftsmanship skills, which are internationally recognized as a competitive advantage in adding value to Thai gems and jewelry. She noted that Thailand, China, and India are the three major gemstone and jewelry producing countries in the world.

Dr. Nalinee further disclosed that she and the ITDCA President also discussed the association’s support for the upcoming Amazing Thailand Grand Diwali Festival 2025, scheduled for 16–20 October 2025, especially the showcasing of gemstones, jewelry, and related exhibitions.

Established in 2002, ITDCA serves as the principal trade association for Thai–Indian entrepreneurs in the diamond, colored stone, and jewelry sector in Thailand. Today, the association has over 260 members, covering both businesses and service providers in the industry. ITDCA has played a significant role in promoting and supporting the gem and jewelry industry, which remains one of Thailand’s key export sectors. It has also been instrumental in advocating for trade liberalization under the Thailand–India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the ASEAN–India FTA, both of which have contributed to the continued growth of gem and jewelry trade and enhanced the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs on the global stage.
